On a Journey to Nowhere: Life and Uncertainties

As a science student in high school, I found Physics to be my least favourite subject. Despite the teacher’s efforts to make it more enjoyable by showing us practical examples, I could never score higher than a C grade. I always felt relieved whenever I saw my results, as it meant I had not failed the subject. Even the Physics teacher’s charming American accent was not enough to spark my interest in the subject.

Quite sadly for us, he was the one who took the most time in class. You know when you’re just like, can you leave now? When I was in SS2, our classes were held in the lab, and most of us decided that if we didn’t take matters into our own hands, we would spend the entire day in that class. So, as soon as the bell rang to signal the end of class, we would pack up our books and tell the teacher that we had another class, even if the next period was just lunch break. Lol

And every time we did that, he would say, “You guys are always in a hurry to nowhere; you should stay and learn this once and for all”. We laughed about it and never really bothered, but recently, those words rang again one of those days when I was reflecting.

We were young and naive and looking to have fun in school. But in retrospect, he was only interested in our growth.

The same way that God is interested in our growth.

“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil to give you an expected end” Jeremiah 29:11. Another scripture then reminds us that “If we, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will our Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him? “ Matthew 7:11

Intentionality.

I had always known, but that was when I understood what it meant for God to be intentional about us. After all, before we were born, He knew us and had formed us for a purpose.

So, while there might be times when you feel like you’re not making enough progress and it just feels like God is silent or doesn’t even “have your time”, aside from just reminding you that there’s hope for you, as I wrote in my last blog post here, I wanted also to remind you that God is intentional and a responsible father. He won’t leave you hanging.

However, you do have a responsibility.

As I was having my devotional some days back, God told me that sometimes we’re so worried about things not working because we’re not in the right standing with Him.

It’s just like me back then — always anxious to see my physics grade. I was never confident about it because I knew I didn’t fully understand the subject. My lack of understanding of the subject made me unsure of my grades, and I failed a few times.

Our responsibility is to communicate so much with the Father and believe in Him that nothing should make us so worried or doubt His credibility. It may not even be the easiest thing to do when things are the hardest, but the truth is that it is when it is the hardest that God shows up in the grandest way possible.

Our responsibility is to trust him wholeheartedly.

Now is the time when you may want to reflect on yourself. Is there any doubt in your heart? Have you possibly been doing something God would not be proud of? Or perhaps you may have questioned the existence of God due to the demanding situations you’re going through, leading to your faith dwindling.

Like my physics teacher said then, and it applies to us now, we are always in a hurry. We are in a rush to get the answers we need, in a hurry to get that promotion, to travel abroad, often with the wrong priorities. But maybe God is holding us back from achieving those things because He knows we need to grow more before reaching that height.

Would you rather be in a hurry and go nowhere, or would you let God handle everything now? Because on a journey to nowhere, there’s no destination in mind, and everywhere looks like it — even destruction. But with God, you can be sure of the very best.
